SUMMARY:Cyber-Physical Security and Resilience of Transportation Systems
DESCRIPTION:Cyber risks in increasingly connected transport systems can cascade across rail\, air\, sea and road\, threatening safety\, operations and wider \n\n\n\n\nThe cyber-security of transportation systems remains a major challenge with the potential for devastating cascading impacts. As rail\, air\, maritime\, and road transport become more digitised\, autonomous\, and interconnected\, a compromise in one system can propagate across infrastructures\, affecting safety\, operations\, and society at large. \nAlthough rail\, air\, maritime\, and roads are often treated separately\, they share common cyber-security challenges\, even if the relative importance of each varies by mode. These include: \n· Mobility of platforms (trains\, planes\, ships\, vehicles) that must support secure navigation and passenger services. \n· Physical access by passengers and staff with varying levels of trust\, to both vehicles and infrastructure. \n· Growing autonomy of platforms and infrastructures in a highly digitised environment. \n· Legacy equipment and long-lived assets that were not originally designed with cyber-security in mind. \n· Congestion on roads\, in the air\, and at ports amplifying the consequences of cyber incidents. \n· Cross-infrastructure dependencies\, including on energy\, communications\, and the wider transportation network (e.g.\, staff needing transport to work). \n· Reliance on location\, positioning\, and context perception (e.g.\, GNSS\, sensors) that must be protected against tampering. \n· The need to address safety and security together\, rather than in isolation. \n· The increasing use of AI at both platform and infrastructure levels. \n· The necessity for resilience and graceful degradation when failures or security events occur. \nThis workshop will bring together experts from academia\, industry\, and government to: \n· Gain an integrated view of cyber-security challenges across rail\, air\, maritime\, and road transportation. \n· Understand how cascading impacts can arise from compromises in individual systems or infrastructures. \n· Explore common technical approaches to mobility\, autonomy\, legacy integration\, AI security\, and safety–security co-design. \n· Discuss strategies for resilience and graceful degradation in the face of cyber incidents. \nIdentify opportunities for collaborative research and innovation\, as well as potential inputs to regulation\, certification frameworks\, and standards. \nVenue: TBC \nLocation: Birmingham \nAgenda: TBC
